Prof. Oluwatoyin Oduntan

Historian and research scholar in African cultural, social, and economic histories with specialization on West Africa and Nigeria.

He has passion for recovering local narratives and intellectual ideas, which have shaped African societies, and in how these voices and epistemologies have survived despite the dominant knowledge production system.

He is the author of Power, Culture and Modernity in Nigeria Beyond the Colony (Routledge, 2018). He has published articles on the African Diaspora, Christian Missions, and Decolonization, and has contributed to the Encyclopedia of African Thought, Abiola Irele and Biodun Jeyifo eds. (2010) and the Dictionary of African Biography, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Emmanuel Akyeampong ed. (2011).

His current research focuses on recovering African medical thoughts of the modern era.
