MOROCCO/ALGERIA/TUNISIA: Located on the northwestern coast of Africa, the Atlas Mountains are a series of mountain ranges that separate the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts of Africa on its northern edge from the Sahara Desert on its southern edge. The range starts in Morocco, crosses Algeria, and ends in Tunisia. The Atlas Mountains are made up of six (6) subdivisions/ranges, each with its own distinct ecosystem and features.

The Atlas Mountains are famous for their terrain and the fact that they provide beautiful and unique experiences for outdoor enthusiasts. Hikers, bikers, skiers, and snowboarders are drawn to the beauty of the Atlas Mountains and the physical challenges offered there.

The Atlas Mountains provide a scenic landscape that is special and distinctive, coupled with the uniqueness of the animals that populate this region. Some examples are Barbary sheep, Cuvier’s gazelle, Barbary macaque, the Barbary stag, Atlas Mountain vipers, and the Atlas Mountain badger.

The Atlas Mountains are economically important to North African countries, especially Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, as they support agriculture, tourism, and natural resource extraction. The mountains create fertile valleys that are vital for farming and livestock grazing, sustaining rural communities.
