Prof. Jean Bosco Manirambona
Prof. Jean Bosco Manirambona is a Professor of Cultural History and Anthropology at the University of Burundi where he was Research Coordinator between 2015-2018 before becoming Head of the newly created Department of Socio-anthropology.
Since 2022, he has been Secretary General of the Burundi National Commission for UNESCO.
His leadership has helped ensure that Burundi engages in global cultural and educational initiatives, safeguarding the country’s intangible heritage while promoting development through education and scientific research.
His scholarly contributions focus on history, culture, and the dynamics of social identities. This makes his research essential to understand how historical misconceptions about the so-called Hutu, Tutsi and Twa (Burundi, Rwanda, and Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo) ethnicities still influence current political and social tensions in Burundi and neighboring countries.
He obtained his PhD in Belgium at the Université Libre de Bruxelles on The Nature of the Discourse on the Foundation of the Sacred Monarchy of Burundi and its Political Organization. It highlighted the cultural, social, historical and socio-political foundations and dynamics of Burundi and the African Great Lakes region.
