University of Ghana Students Explore Knowledge Preservation at the Encyclopaedia Africana Project Secretariat

On 17 August 2026, the Encyclopaedia Africana Project (EAP) Secretariat welcomed a group of Level 200 students from the School of Information and Communication Studies of the University of Ghana who, as part of their course project, were required to observe and analyse management processes within a functioning institution.
The students conducted interviews to gain a better understanding of how the EAP Secretariat manages, organises and preserves its information, data and publications. The engagement provided valuable insights into the systems and practices employed to safeguard institutional knowledge and ensure its accessibility for future generations.
The visit also enabled the students to interact with the Director of the Secretariat, Mr. Christian Dovi, and members of the Management team. While outlining the history, vision and mandate of the Encyclopaedia Africana Project, Mr. Dovi encouraged the students to view themselves not only as Information Studies students but also as custodians of knowledge with a critical role in preserving society’s collective memory.
He urged them to remain curious about the world around them, stay informed on current affairs, deepen their understanding of their identities and roots, and cultivate a greater appreciation for Africa’s rich history and cultural heritage. Mr. Dovi further emphasised that although technology provides valuable tools for preserving knowledge, it is people who must first recognise the value of their history and take responsibility for protecting the stories that define them.
At the end of the visit, the students were presented with brochures and informational pamphlets to further acquaint them with the work, mission and vision of the Encyclopaedia Africana Project Secretariat.
